TOWN OF OXBOW – PUBLIC WORKS OPERATOR

The Town of Oxbow is seeking a full-time Public Works Operator. This position is a combination of direct, hands-on activities with streets, sidewalks, and associated equipment; water and sewer infrastructure including drainage; and other lands and facilities owned by the Town of Oxbow, and direct communication with the public.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and be results oriented while carrying out the work as a member of the Public Works team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All season’s maintenance: snow and ice removal, snow, cut grass, fix roads and street signs, paint street lines, paint/minor carpentry, minor plumbing and electrical repairs
  • Greenspace maintenance throughout town limits – approaches, around culverts, light posts, signage, etc.
  • Operate various pieces of equipment including, but not limited to, grader, loader, skid steer, power mowers, weed wackers, etc.
  • Storm Sewer drainage and maintenance
  • Standby for Town of Oxbow on a 7/24 basis – call out of appropriate personnel for all after hours and emergency situations that require immediate attention – standby responsibilities will be shared with other members of the Public Works Department
  • Assist in operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, water distribution system and wastewater system. Maintain, operate and perform lab analysis for the water treatment plant and wastewater system as required by Water Security Agency Regulations if required
  • Maintain and operate the lift stations and lagoon – daily checks/record pump operations and add chemicals if required
  • Daily, weekly and annual routine and preventative maintenance and repairs, as well as documentation, records generation and retention required to satisfy operational requirements and Water Security Agency Regulations if required
  • Weed Control
  • Follow direction and carry out duties as delegated by the Public Works Foreman
  • Any other duties assigned by the Public Works Foreman


Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following:

  • Minimum Level 1 Water Treatment and Distribution Certification or desire to obtain certification
  • Minimum Level 1 Wastewater Collection and Treatment Certification or desire to obtain certification
  • Minimum Class 5, and willing to obtain 3A with air brake endorsement, driver’s license;
  • Heavy equipment operation and maintenance
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment, small hand tools, lawn and garden and be aware of safety policies and procedures at all times
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and highly professional with superior judgment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and direction, as well as part of a team environment. Demonstrate cooperative attitude with management, staff, partners, and customers
  • Knowledge and understanding of Workers’ Compensation practices/protocols, Workers’ Compensation Act and OH&S Regulations and other
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
